The ever-inspired Glen Campbell powerfully captures Alzheimer’s effects with poignant final song

In 2011, country music legend Glen Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, the degenerative illness that causes dementia and currently has no cure.

To ensure people remember what he’s really about, Glen wrote the brave and heartbreaking song “I’m Not Gonna Miss You.” The powerfully emotional, life-loving video (below) is beyond lovely and goosebumps-inducing (if not causing a full-on crying jag).

“I’m Not Gonna Miss You” is a preview to the very real documentary currently airing about his life, “Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me.” The film follows the musician on his final tour where he deals with his illness with humor, grace and no shame, and with the help of his wonderfully supportive audiences.

Sometimes in the face of this sort of awe-inspiring thing we feel a little silly with our hospital gowns and such, but, if our patient wear makes someone’s recovery experience a little more pleasant and sharing curated info and gems like this helps people in some small way, we feel better already, too.

“You’re waiting from the backroads by the rivers of my memories, Ever smilin’ ever gentle on my mind.”

Rock on, amazing Glen. And, thank you.
